What is Silicoroid?
The balance of High Si - Low C is distinctive! The composition of Ni, Cr, and precipitation strengthening elements is adjusted according to the application.
Generally, martensite in iron alloys that do not contain carbon is soft and highly ductile, but on the other hand, it has low strength, and since there is almost no carbon present even after tempering, carbide precipitation hardening is not possible. Instead of carbides, fine precipitate particles of intermetallic compounds are dispersed to enhance strength, as seen in precipitation-hardened stainless steels like SUS630 and SUS631, as well as ultra-high strength steels like maraging steel. Among silico-alloy steels, "Silico-Alloy A2" and "Silico-Alloy XVI" utilize a precipitation hardening mechanism, particularly characterized by the refined matrix structure of "Silico-Alloy XVI," which has hard intermetallic compounds precipitating.
